Day 6

Friday, December 27th 2013

Today was the last day at our flat, so we packed up and were out the door by 9:30 am. We had a driver named Tom come pick us up in a big van. As we drove to our hotel we found out Tom is a driver and does security for famous people like the Kardashian's, Shakira and Emminem when they come to visit France. We drove to Paris' business part called La Defense, it seriously looked like a dystopian society or straight out of I am Legend. There was graffiti and gypsy camps everywhere. I was waiting for a group of zombies to come attack our car. So scary, and such a bad feeling. The city was supposed to be really big for Paris, but it was a flop. Now no one goes there or stays there because it is so expensive still.

On our way to Versailles we drove by the Temple that is being built. There wasn't anything to see, but its still pretty cool. If I ever get married, it would be a dream to be married in the Versailles Temple.

We went to our hotel and it seemed nice, but there was nothing to do in the city. Tom told us about this beautiful hotel in Versailles that he stays at frequently. We called and luckily got a room there, so we canceled our reservation at the original hotel. Trianon Palace, is BEAUTIFUL!  It used to be a palace of some sort and it right on the border of Versailles.

After we checked in,  we went to lunch with Tom to his favorite patisserie in Versailles called Bigot. My mom found a dessert called a Paris Breast that she had been searching for all over Paris. She literally screamed with joy. We all got sandwiches and headed to Versailles Palace.  It was freezing cold, windy, and had a huge line to get in,  but that couldn't stop us from being overjoyed at the beautiful scenery.

The tour of the Palace was weird because for the most part, they don't let guest go into actual rooms and have mock rooms instead. The craftsmanship is impeccable though. The ceilings are covered in original murals and frescos.  Out on the grounds there are huge gardens, lakes,  Le Petit Trianon and The Hamlet which is a small village Marie built as a playground for her children. It was like walking through a fairytale. I wanted to be wearing a flowery dress, carrying a lace umbrella... but of course I was decked as in black as usual.

Waiting in line, in the rain for a stupid tram. Yes, Le Petit Trianon is far away, but I wish we would have just walked. We waited almost an hour.

I'm obsessed with this staircase. I love the windows.

There were hundreds of Koi fish. We think Aunt Channie should steal one and put it in her pond.

For dinner we went to a classic French restaurant. The waiters wore bow ties, the French Onion Soup was delicious and they had perfect Creme Brûlée.
