Hello! This week has been a lot of fun! We only have about a month left and as much as I want to go home I am kinda freaking out because there is still so many things to see and do! I want to go back to Portabello Road, Camden, Borough Market, spend more time in the parks, stalk celebrities houses and see a few more musicals. Lots to do with very little time. We are heading to Scotland tomorrow and will be gone all week. I am SO pumped for Scotland. My dad went there on his mission and my heritage goes back to Scotland (mostly Ireland) and I have this day dream where I will find some tall, hunky ginger Scot, who is basically a lumberjack but super nice and funny and owns a cute little cottage and we are gonna fall in love and get married...so I'm assuming that is going to happen. Right? So like anyways... On Tuesday, everyone in our program went to the Opera at Great Albert Hall to see La Boheme. It was an Opera... in Italian.. so like you could understand anything... But they did have teleprompters so that was helpful. They did this scene where they are at an outdoor market/cafe and literally 100 cast members came through the audience and on stage. Some were on roller stakes, some were dancers, some had amazing costumes on... It was awesome. Also, when we got there our seats were way up in the boonies but a lady gave us tickets to open seats on the ground level and had an amazing view!
Before view
After view (SCORE!)
On Wednesday, we had our field trip. First, we went to this giant muddy field aka Runnymede. Yes, I know its a supes famous field because its where the Magna Carta was signed but still it was a field. It was kinda rando.
So we took it as a opportunity to pretend to be in Twilight.
Then, we drove to Windsor Castle. This is basically the Queens vacation home. The guards welcomed us to the castle by playing a 10 min long mashup of Abba songs. A W E S O M E
After, we went to the author Miltons house. He wrote Paradise Lost.... but it was just kinda a run down cottage with 2 tiny rooms to look at.
He had cool topiaries though.
On Thursday, Camille and I went to Mamma Mia. We left our flat a little late and took the bus which was a bad idea because there was a lot of traffic and I didn't take down the best directions. I DO NOT know how we got there correctly or on time but we did. I'm so thankful that we did because I had such a good time at the show. We bought tickets for just 20 pound and got front row seats! The actors interacted with Camille and I a lot... probably because we were the only ones smiling ear to ear the whole time. At the end of the show after they took their bows the whole cast came back out and sang a few songs and danced around and the audience danced along too! My mom would have loved it. Right up here alley. Mamma Mia is her favorite movie and she even went to the sing along version of the movie. Its her fandom. We will have to go see it in Vegas or something.
LOL McKern. Kern McKern aka Camille (Kern) McKeon
Oh and bonus. When I picked up tickets earlier that day the security guy at the door talked to me for a second and when I came back for the show he gave me his business card. So... If I want a 40+ year old boyfriend now I can.
On Friday, we went on a tour of Charles Dickens home in Camden. Did you know Dickens was kinda a horrible guy? Like.... dont be a horrible person but awesome writer and thats obvious.
This is the desk where Dickens wrote many of his later works like A Tale of Tow Cities and Great Expectations. I touched it hoping some of his writing magic would rub off on me.
On Saturday afternoon, we went Pedal Boating in the Hyde Park Lake. It was such a sunny, warm and happy day. It was nice to just enjoy the sun, relax and take my shoes off outside.... which I haven't done in soooo long. Summer is coming!!!
Camille fed the birds. Tuppence means two pence aka 2 cents. Did you know that? I just figured this out. Whatev.
This morning I woke up at 5 AM and couldn't fall back to sleep. The only nice thing about waking up SO early is that I can text Utah people and they are still awake. I HATE the time difference. So after about an hour I realized I wasn't going to get anymore sleep and went out for a walk. I heard about this park down the street called Holland Park from my friend Kelseys blog so I headed there.
Utah shaped flower bed.
I love Palm Trees so much. But they make me miss California. Also, its weird that there are Palm Trees here. Like..... youre not supposed to be here Palmy... Sorry.
xx Jac
